A bit about me:

I’m Lauren Spuhler, a multimedia journalist based in Tennessee. I’m currently working as assistant visuals editor for the Knoxville News Sentinel.

I joined the News Sentinel in February 2005 as an online producer. In this role, I produced video, audio and multimedia packages, and worked to keep the family of sites under the News Sentinel umbrella fresh with breaking news content. I was promoted to assistant visuals editor in March 2011. That means I’m doing all of the above, while helping to coordinate video and online operations for our award-winning sites.

My passion is for finding stories that resonate with readers and I have experience sharing these stories as long-form videos. In 2010 and 2011, I was a part of a team that won back-to-back national Edward R. Murrow Awards in the news video documentary category.

In addition, I write a monthly social media column and feature stories. I also previously taught journalism classes at the University of Tennessee.

I’m originally from New Jersey and have dual Canadian citizenship since I was born in Montreal, Canada (no, I’m not French Canadian). I earned my Master’s in journalism from Northwestern University and two bachelor degrees in magazine journalism and English from Syracuse University.

When I’m not working, I’m enjoying new experiences as a wife and newlywed.
